Stella's 1st Day of 1st Grade

Stella started first grade on Wednesday, August 13th!  To see how much she has grown since starting kindergarten last year, check out this post.  She was lucky enough to be assigned to the teacher that she really wanted, so she was super stoked.  Her rationale behind choosing Mrs. Brunet was that the kids in Mrs. Brunet's class last year got to go without shoes for a whole day.  While this told Stella that Mrs. Brunet is super fun, it told me that Mrs. Brunet knows how to get kids excited, and that's definitely one of the hallmarks of a good teacher.  We are looking forward to great things for Stella, her class, and her teacher this year...
You know I could never select just one picture of my sweet girl.  Another fun first grade fact is that Stella's class has a blog!  Now you can follow Stella's activities at home, as well as see what she's up to at school by visiting www.brunetsbusybees.blogspot.com...

Have a great year in first grade, big girl!

Watts's 2nd Birthday Party, Part 3

Watts finally made peace with his swashbuckling guest...

I think I forgot to mention so far that one of our favorite cousins came to spend time with us and was able to join us for Watts's birthday.  Watts calls her "Nanah" but her real name is Savanah...
Clean yourself up, kid.  I've got ice cream to eat...
Me and my favorite little buddy...

I love all the colors in this one...
Gotcha again, Skyler!  I am a camera ninja...
For some reason the side of the house became a popular play area.  Don't worry, though.  Caroline had it all under control.  If you want results, send her...

High-fiving each other goodbye...

Just like a real pirate...knife in one hand and gold doubloons in the other!
More cake never hurt anybody...

Elsa's icy punch doubled as Sea Water for Shipwrecked Pirates at this party.  If you have noticed that I have not complained about the heat, it is because a storm threatened to blow through literally as our party began.  We were tremendously blessed when the sky clouded up, the breeze got heavy, and only a few drops of rain fell before the storm went around us.  It cooled everything off and stayed nice and overcast for our party, so the heat wasn't nearly as bad as we had expected it to be.  I do try to make sure our little guests stay well-hydrated, though, so here was some refreshment...
A princess showed up at the pirate party, too...

After it was time for his friends and family to head home, Watts took a bath, put on his jammies, and opened his presents before turning in for the night.  It was a long fun day for all of us...

Watts, in some ways I cannot believe it has been two years since you were born and in some ways it feels like you have always been with us.  We love you very much, sweet boy!  You brighten our lives, Watts Ray!

Watts's 2nd Birthday Party, Part 2

As always, I went minimalist on our decorations.  We used the invitation, pieces of Pawpaw's Halloween costume from last year, a library book, and Watts's party favors to decorate the entry table.  His party favors were copies of the Little Golden Book How to Be a Pirate...
We did, of course, have the mandatory birthday banner...
And the slideshow running with the soundtrack to Pirates of the Caribbean as theme music.  Damon said he felt like he should be on some sort of epic adventure all day because of the music...
I am not sure what they were trying to talk Watts into at this point...

Stella showed off her freshly lost tooth to Ms. Missy...
Not sure what this face is for...
Sharing!  What sweet friends...
I love a child who poses on command...if only Emmi could teach Watts this trick!
Having fun with Mawmaw and Aunt Bobby...

The cake.  Thank you, Albertson's!  This time I went with one of their stock choices.  I learned my lesson from the pirate pig/monkey fiasco...
Family photo time before we sing...
One day we will ALL look at the camera...(fingers crossed)

How many times has Mommy's pregnant belly showed up at a 2 year old birthday party?  I'm glad you asked!  Check here and here for a blast from the past...

He gets by with a little help from his sisters...
He did not require any help devouring his cake...

Our cake server was even authentic to the theme.  How do I do it?

This face!  Watts may be my most expressive child, but the expressions are not always positive...
Only one more post of birthday fun!
