Home Improvement (Grunt, Grunt)

We took advantage of the quarantine to do LOTS of projects around the house that we had been putting off.  We did not complete the project, but someone else installed solar panels for us...
We rebuilt the pergola by the garage ourselves, but got a little stucco support from our friends at Ozuna...
We also rebuilt the pergola near the pool, which was a nightmare of manual labor for everyone involved, and everyone in this instance means all 6 of us...

We also finally had the batting cage installed.  This project has been on the to do list since we moved in...

We did not neglect indoor projects!  The pool table got some new felt...
And we added swings to the pergola to make it more functional...

Damon's never ending list of projects made me very eager for the quarantine to be over!

Quarantine Birthdays

Even though the world hit pause, birthdays still happened!  Damon turned 40 and Stella turned 12 during the quarantine.  And when you have a birthday in our home, you are treated to an all-sibling assault first thing in the morning for a celebratory breakfast in bed...
Madison made Damon this super fancy and also delicious cake for his birthday...
And apparently donut shops were essential enough to still be open...
Happy Birthday, Damon and Stella!  This is not the way we imagined these celebrations would take place, but we are so happy we were able to celebrate together as a family! We love you!

Life on Lockdown

Life was rocking along at its normal breakneck pace for our family when March 13th came and the world turned upside down.  When I first heard that the entire state was shutting down and folks were supposed to stay home for two weeks, I thought it was a joke.  Honestly, it sounded pretty ridiculous.  Since I never watch the news, I really had no idea what all the fuss was about.  Then when I started doing some quick research on my phone it was quickly obvious that no one really knew what this Covid thing was or what exactly we should be doing about it.  Suddenly our overflowing calendar of activities was wide open and we were doing school online from home. It was actually pretty great timing, at least for Cille, because it gave her collarbone a chance to heal before her next dance competition.  Below are some snapshots of what life was like on quarantine lockdown.

First up, our Parkview Baptist Virtual Spirit Day...
Watts taking a first grade reading class via Zoom from our wonderful Mrs. Foval...(in his pajamas)
Cille doing some schoolwork in her room...
Eventually boredom set in and the big girls starting looking around for something to do.  They decided to makeover Corinne...
We also used the downtime to take care of some outdoor projects we had been putting off since moving into the house.  We filled all the backyard planters with fresh plants...
Back to our favorite model with some serious winged eye-liner.  Thanks, Stella...
Sidewalk chalk art was all the rage during the quarantine, but chalk was actually pretty hard to find.  I finally ordered a big crate online and Stella created this masterpiece...
We spent a lot of time in the pool...
At some point, Watts had to spell out his name with household objects for school...

I mentioned that we spent a lot of time in the pool, but I left out that the POOL WAS FREEZING, so we also spent a lot of time wrapped up in towels beside the pool shivering...
We also took full advantage of the empty lot across the street to fly our kites...
Another completed planter...
Stella and Watts played with a friend and caught up on schoolwork poolside...
We took tons of dance classes via Zoom...
Cille lived her best life with lots of time to read.  We even instituted a family reading time (30 minutes together in the living room) and started reading a chapter of a book aloud at meals.  We all loved Matilda, and we also finished The Secret Garden, among other titles...

And while dance class was happening in the theater, karate class was going on in the gym...
We are very thankful to all of the teachers and coaches who helped us make life at home on lockdown as normal as possible!

Snapping Collarbones Right and Left

Every year when my birthday approaches I get a little nervous, not about growing older, but about the fact that for some reason the kids seem to be a little more accident prone near my birthday.  Enter our second broken collarbone in the family-Cille!  Cille broke her collarbone while "cheering" for her brother while he took batting practice.  Never mind that cheerleading is not really a part of baseball, she and Stella thought some stunts would really help Watts gain an edge, but it ended in a trip to the orthopedist for Cille.   Thank you, Jesus, for sweet friends who take calls after hours!
Flowers and balloons from Uncle Dub and Aunt Pam made the patient feel much better!

Dancing Queens

Our dance competition season continued with LADM, and even the moms got in on the fun with a workout class that proved the dancing talent did not come from the mothers...

We always love to see D.J. Guthrie.  He is such a fun teacher!

Can't wait for next competition season!

Our Little Lugnut

We were so excited to get back to the baseball field and cheer for our favorite baseball player, Watts!  This year he is a Lugnut, and he is definitely ready to "Go Nuts!" - in spite of most of his siblings being allergic...
The first game was a little chilly...
I love it when they are sweet to each other!
