Labor Day Weekend at Pensacola Beach, Part 2

My quest for the perfect family beach photo continued on this trip as well.  When packing, I carefully considered clothing that we already had that we could match easily and decided on jeans and white shirts.  I even brought make-up for myself (a big sacrifice) and the right hairbows for the girls.  I remembered the camera and Damon even found the remote and packed the tripod.  What could go wrong?  We were finally going to accomplish the impossible dream!  Right?

Wrong...Lighting and three small children conspired against us, leaving us with this as our best effort...
It was really overcast, so we had the right time of day but not great lighting...
For a while the girls only smiled when we allowed them to say "poo-poo."  That led to lots of shots like this...
The skirts were also an issue because at age 5 and 3 we apparently don't get the concept of sitting modestly...

When we tried to take pics of the three kids, Watts tried to escape...

The ones of the sisters ended up being my favorites...

Finally we gave up and just took silly pictures of sassy pose...

My guys...love them!

We even tried again the next morning, but by the time we got everyone and everything wrangled and down to the beach, the sun was too bright.  It was really only a problem for some of us.  I'll let you guess which ones...
Oh well...we'll try again next year...

Labor Day Weekend at Pensacola Beach, Part 1

Once again this summer did not lend itself to much vacationing.  We had high hopes of squeezing in several short beach-within-reach trips, but at the end of the summer the only beach we had seen was a dirty one in Biloxi.  Instead we spent our summer recuperating from ear tubes and Lasik surgery.  Since Damon was finally discharged to experience water sports again, we decided to take a mini-vacay to Pensacola for Labor Day weekend.  It had to be a short trip because Stella is now in real school, and she only had one day off.  We chose Pensacola again because we had such a great time there last year, the drive is short, and the hotel that we stayed in last time is perfect for our family at this stage of life.  We even talked Mawmaw and Pawpaw into coming with us...
Watts had a blast splashing all around the kids' pool.  He wore himself out and had to go nap after this...

Stella discovered the art of sunbathing on this trip.  She doesn't really realize that is what she is doing, but she wanted to lounge on Watts's pool float and just drift around.  I have a bad feeling that all that careful sunblocking I've been doing will all be for nothing once she becomes a teenager and wants a tan...

Cille is a great swimmer, but a little too confident for our taste, so we made her wear her puddle jumper most of the time...

Damon under siege...
If you enlarge this picture Stella's hair looks pretty cool...

Stella loves the waterfall in this pool...

Watts was fading fast...

There are lots more Florida pictures to share...five posts worth, in fact...brace yourself or skip the next few posts if you don't enjoy seeing other people's vacation photos.  I have heard some people don't enjoy that, believe it or not...

Watts's First Haircut

Those pictures with the fan drove home the fact that it was time for Watts to conquer another milestone: his first haircut!  If there's one thing we don't like at the Pourciau house, it's long hair on boys.  I am sure this fact will inspire Watts to grow his hair out to his ankles later in life, but for right now we are controlling his 'do and it's gonna be short!

He was pretty brave before we got started...
Then he started wondering what was going on...
Not the happiest face, but no tears...

Finished!  He looks handsome and he was a big brave boy!  I would have preferred that it be a tad shorter, but he balked a little when she came at him with the clippers, so I decided to back off and let his first experience be a positive one.
