Manitou Cliff Dwellings

I have wanted to visit Mesa Verde since my grandpa took the boy cousins back in the '90's, so when I saw that there were cliff dwellings near Colorado Springs, I added that to our agenda.  The kids look excited in this photo, but their enthusiasm for the destination did not match mine...

Our first two days in Colorado Springs were chilly, overcast, and rainy...
So what better time to go hide under a cliff?
The rain limited us to indoor activities, so we also visited the GhostTown Museum...

Corinne and a bread oven...
Stella Oakley...

The girls did enjoy grinding their own corn meal at the cliff dwellings...

I enjoyed the artwork...

Corinne bellied up to the bar for a root beer...

More vacation fun to come!

Seven Falls

When there's only one week of summer without dance classes, you book a flight and head to the airport while it's still dark the morning after recital!  When you get to Colorado Springs, you hike to a waterfall and pose with your mouth open because Kirk said it makes you look like you are having more fun...
Can you see Colorado Springs in the distance?
We will go chasing waterfalls, thank you very much...

If Corinne looks a little puffy, it is because our initial rental car was filthy with pet hair and Corinne had an epic allergic reaction.  That's how we started the vacation, so it had to be up from that experience...

Catching our breath...

Corinne held things up really well on the trip...

We like to live dangerously...

I do not remember how many steps this was, but it was a lot.  To make it even more fun, we climbed down this staircase in a thunderstorm after getting caught in the rain...

We had to try out some dancer poses in nature, of course...

When we got to the literal farthest lookout point on the trail, we heard a big roll of thunder and the bottom fell out.  Lucky for us we had some emergency ponchos because the forecast was iffy at best.  So this is how we looked hiking back down the mountain...and there was a little bit of hail to keep things interesting...

We doubled up and did both trails, of course...

Even though we were running on about 2 hours sleep, we had a blast at Seven Falls.  We checked into the hotel afterward and took an epic nap to finish vacation day one.
