Sweet Friends

On Saturday morning we had a very special treat: a visit from our beloved long-lost friends the Oswalt family!  Brian was our youth minister years ago back in LaPlace, but they made a move to Mississippi when Stella and Tristyn were just little tykes and we haven't gotten to spend nearly enough time together since then.  It was so great to see them and hear about all the exciting things going on in their family and their ministry.  The kids had tons of fun playing together, too, and we even managed to pile them all on the couch to try our hand at a group photo-op...
I think these turned out pretty good considering.  I mean all 5 kids are looking in the same direction and have mostly pleasant expressions on their faces...
I am also super-glad there was not a camera on me to capture the faces I had to make to get those smiles...
We love those sweet Oswalts and can't wait to visit them in their neck of the woods this summer!

Stella's BirthDAY

Did I mention that Damon and I both had strep on Stella's birthday?  He took the early shift and missed breakfast and I suffered through the cupcakes at school and traded places with him for the after school shift.  Stella got to choose the restaurant for dinner, and of course she chose her favorite spot: TJ Ribs, where she devoured an entire rack of baby backs.  They also brought her a brownie with ice cream that turned out to be peanut free so she could finally enjoy a restaurant dessert!  What a treat!  Back at home it was time to open some presents!
Mawmaw and Pawpaw feel it is not fair for Stella to receive and the others not to, so Cille and Watts had a couple of their own items to open...
Stella asked for this for Christmas but didn't get it due to the 3 gift limit.  We don't limit birthdays...
Watts got a swimming monkey for his bathtub.  He also felt that the party was pants optional...
Stella was really excited about her gifts...
Dad attended breakfast via FaceTime, and I watched presents the same way.  FaceTime boggled the mind of my poor Wattsy-boy.  He could see me, but I couldn't pick him up, and this was very upsetting to the poor little guy.  Eventually I just hung up to avoid upsetting him more...

Cille LOVED her gifts...as you can see by her face...
Streaks for Stella's hair and our carpet...  :-(
That card must have been hilarious...

Watts has finally caught on to the whole present thing.  While Stella was opening her gifts, he kept grabbing wrapped boxes, running away with them, and yelling, "Mine!" the whole time...

She was super-pumped about her marshmallow shooting bow and arrow...

Watts was very disappointed that the bow and arrow was not for him...
So his sweet sister shared...just part of being the oldest...
Stella also received a bikini with fringe on it so Cille decided to give her a tutorial on how to shake it, as if Stella needs any help in that department...
It was a bit of a tag-team effort, but we squeezed every ounce of celebration that we could out of Stella's 6th birthday.  I cannot believe that we have been her parents for 6 years already.  You would think we would be better at it by now!  Stella definitely changed our world for the better.  We love you, our big 6-year-old girl!

Stella's Birthday at School

The birthday fun continued at school when I brought cupcakes and ice cream to snack time...
The kids all take turns bringing healthy snacks to school, but when it is their birthday they are allowed to bring junk food, so we went all out.  They also get to wear the special birthday glasses on their special day...
Stella wanted to take a picture with her teacher.  How she loves Ms. Chelette!
Silly girl...

Her close-up conversation with a classmate cracked me up.  Kindergarteners have no concept of personal space...
Stella enjoyed sharing her birthday with her classmates...

Stella's Birthday Breakfast

Following our big weekend of birthday party festivities we had a couple of days to rest before it was Stella's actual birthDAY.  On Wednesday morning she enjoyed a Pourciau family tradition...birthday breakfast in bed!  She was super excited!
I started the birthday breakfast tradition way back in 1999 when I celebrated Damon's birthday with him for the first time.  Back then we lived in dorms and I did not have a kitchen or access to his bed since our school was a little strict.  Our first birthday breakfast was McDonald's in the Tudor Hall lobby.  Since then we haven't missed celebrating birthdays together first thing in the morning.  Unfortunately, Damon was ill on Stella's birthday and had been evacuated to Mawmaw and Pawpaw's house in order to protect the rest of us from his strep throat germs.  Thank goodness for FaceTime which allowed Daddy to attend birthday breakfast from miles away...
More birthday fun to come!

Stella's Fancy Birthday Party, Part 3

Sweet girls in the tent...
Add a sweet boy...
Elizabeth was born to have her photograph taken...

Seriously, aren't Stella's friends the cutest things?  You just want to squeeze them all!

Another cutie who is used to being in front of the camera...

In spite of the expression, Reid was really enjoying his Hershey kisses...
So was Watts...
Mother daughter photo!
I think they were planning their first frog hunt in this one.  Apparently Watts is going to drive the boat and Reid is going to catch the frogs...
They're all airborne!

Skyler: why couldn't you stay a baby longer?  He is too grown up!

My request for this picture was that they put their faces together and smile with their mouths open.  Kirk says you always look like you're having more fun if you smile with your mouth open, and I think there might actually be something to that theory.  Since the boys chose to be silly, however, this picture just looks like Kirk is trying to eat Damon...
I forgot to take a picture of the cake before it was time to light the candles, so here is the best I have to offer...

If you watch Cille in the background of these pictures you will see a sad story unfold.  Apparently, she started out by her sister and then left to get something.  When she came back, she couldn't squeeze her way back into her spot, so she got upset.  I was busy singing "Happy Birthday" and had no idea this was going on...

Eventually Cille got so upset she just turned around and pouted.  We promised her next time we will make sure she has a spot by Stella...I had no idea this was so important to her...

Thank goodness Pam was on hand to help me with cake and ice cream.  She is always an excellent helper at birthday parties...

We did not open gifts at the party because I think that can be a little tortuous for the other kids, but a few of Stella's friends wanted to watch her open their particular gift, so she did get to open a few as her friends were leaving.  She was ecstatic to receive a Barbie make-up kit, which has been making both our girls beautiful every day since she received it.  I am actually hoping she runs out of make-up soon because I am a little embarrassed when my three year old shows up places with full make-up...
Eventually the kids disassembled the poetry tent and used the blankets to construct their own creation...

Once all our guests went home, the girls had fun playing with Mawmaw while the rest of us started cleaning up...

Later that evening Stella did get to open her gifts...
As you can see, her friends were way too generous.  It was so sweet to see how they all know Stella's personality and brought her gifts that she absolutely loved.  She is still finding new things to play with, and our house looks like a toy store even more so than usual...
Thanks so much to everyone who attended and helped out with the party!  Stella really enjoyed her special day and we all enjoyed spending time with friends and family!
