Hiking at Clark Creek

My favorite outing this summer may have been our trip to Clark Creek Natural Area to hike to waterfalls...
I am not responsible for any of Cille's poses in these photos...
Watts got to start the hike in the Kelty, because Corinne was afraid to get into it...
That meant I got to wear 25 pounds of fun in the infant carrier on my chest...
I promise we are in the middle of this photo.  Guess we needed the real camera, but no one wanted to lug it along...

The kids LOVED hiking in the creek bed...

Watts was soon soaking wet...
Photography by Stella...
We made it to the swimming hole!

One happy little hiker...
Corinne finally overcame her fear of the child carrier...to my great relief...

Watts had to ditch his shirt eventually because it was sopping wet...
Me and 3 of my favorite wilderness explorers...
There's my other two favorites...

Watts was so exhausted on the hike back that he had to ride on Daddy's back to keep from tripping over his own feet.  Corinne was happy to hike back up the hill, but insisted on doing it ALL BY HERSELF.  I think we might have problems with this one in the future...

A Little History Lesson Never Hurt Anyone

One of my goals for the summer was to play tourist in our own backyard and introduce the big girls to some local history.  Cille was not impressed with her lesson on early Louisiana plumbing...
The girls were the youngest people on the Magnolia Mound tour, but their mature behavior made me proud...
Sadly, this ended up being our only local history outing this summer, but you have to start somewhere!  Maybe we can explore a few more places when we have a free weekend...

Kayaking at Baton Rouge Beach

Parenthood doesn't leave a lot of time for water sports, but we do still enjoy dusting off the old paddles from time to time and taking a spin in the kayak.  Of course, our co-ed team looks a little different these days...

Our support staff is much cuter than it used to be...
All-male division!
And Corinne has to do literally EVERYTHING the big kids do...at least in her mind...

Pourciau Tree Removal Service

We had a particularly horrific thunderstorm recently that caused some damage to a tree in our neighbor's yard.  The tree ended up resting on the brick wall that separates our yards, (good fences make good neighbors, y'all!) and since they seemed to be rather nonchalant about getting rid of the tree, we took matters into our own hands before the fence came tumbling down...
This may not look like much, but keep in mind it started in the BACK yard and had to be cut down and dragged to the front...
It was an all-day ordeal, and one that left me nursing a fever blister and a sunburn.  We tried to get the big girls to help pick up limbs, but their enthusiasm for the project was rather short-lived...
I thought it was kind of fun, though...

Kindergarten Splash Day

After a year of hard work, the kindergarten class was more than ready to cut loose and enjoy their end of the year splash day.  Since it is a Christian school, one piece swimsuits were required for girls.  That was a tough order to fill in this house full of bikini babes.  I finally managed to scrounge up an old swim team practice suit and Cille was ready for action...
Cille's sweet class, ready to splash...
Such cute little friends...
The kids rotated around the football field having a great time at different stations.  The PBS field is turf, so the black spots floating in the pool are actually little pieces of rubber that were sticking to the kids' feet from the turf.  They didn't let that hold them back from having a ton of fun in the sun...
