Trick or Treat!

I can honestly say that this was the most fun Halloween of my life. Stella decided to dress up as her favorite animal for the festivities, so here is my little kitty-cat getting ready to go begging for treats... The costume was not complete until she had her whiskers...
Stella and Grandpa checking out her new look in the mirror...
Cheese! Stella even had her own kitten to complete the ensemble.
This series was so cute I had to post them all....

Apparently we have been reading too much Cinderella, (or CinderStella as we call it) because Stella tried to ride her pumpkin. I guess nobody told her your fairy godmother has to turn it into a carriage first...
The two cutest kitties in the neighborhood...

Kitty-cat Stella and her two veterinarians...
Say, "Aaaahhhhhh!" Daddy gave Stella a thorough examination before we set out for treats.
It didn't hurt a bit. Look how much fun this girl is having!
A kitty-cat-kiss-sandwich...
She wanted her costume, "Off!"
After a small break from the costume, we loaded up the wagon and set out for trick or treating. We gained a new vet before we left the house, and this time it was one that actually likes animals and even has a little experience with cats.
Stella was all smiles at her first stop...
We have no idea who these folks are, but they were so sweet to Stella and made her first real trick or treating experience very special for her. Her pumpkin was halfway full before we left!
On the way to our next stop, Jamie and Daddy graciously removed any candy that Stella was allergic to from her pumpkin and disposed of it properly. They are so thoughtful, that way....
Stella's love affair with Mr. Eddie begins in the Millet's front yard...
You may also notice that Stella sported her glow-in-the-dark necklace from the Raney's for trick or treating. It was so thoughtful of Emily to remember that Stella is allergic to almost ALL candy and send her a special treat ahead of time even though they wouldn't be around for trick or treating! You know you have great friends when, huh? Here's Stella Cat and Snow White, a.k.a. Molly...
Our last stop of the night was at our own front door, where we were greeted by Grandma Tonie with a bowl full of treats. It was the perfect end to a perfect night, and Stella gave her a sweet, "Thank-you, Maw-maw."
We can't wait to see what Stella will be next year!

Happy Halloween!

Our Little Pumpkin

On Saturday Grandmere, Stella, and I followed the May/Guillory/Neyland clan to Ms. Heather's Pumpkin Patch in Hammond for a day of fun. First stop was the petting zoo, where Stella got on a first-name basis with her Thanksgiving dinner....
She petted this soft bunny rabbit for a few minutes before it escaped from the little girl holding it and was relentlessly and violently chased by a passel of children until recaptured....
She saw some little piggies who had not yet left for market and were definitely not eating roast beef...
She rode a horsey...
Stella refused to smile even though this backdrop was the perfect photo op...
She attempted to ride the hay as well as the horse...
We tried again with Sadie as our helper. Sadie has her picture smile down pat...
She took a little break with Grandmere on the porch swing...
Stella got a pumpkin painted on her hand...
Then she showed it off for the camera...
Next it was time to pick our own pumpkin from the patch...
Next, Stella and Grandmere set out to conquer the blob...
Then it was time to ride this big chicken which Stella called "lunch."
She had her own method for driving the tractor...
But she eventually tried it our way...
This is the face she made after another little boy tried to invade her pumpkin carriage. She was obviously in no mood for visits from Prince Charming...
She lived out her pioneer dreams in a real-life Conestoga wagon...
Stella and Grandmere peeking out of the wagon...
Our little pumpkin measured up a little below 3 feet tall....
Racing rubber duckies required intense concentration...
Trying to take a ride on the piggy...
Success!
Trying to convince Grandmere to take a piggy-back ride...
We played the drums on this great big pumpkin...
Then we chose a special pumpkin to decorate...
My little Monet...

We had a great time at Ms. Heather's! If you live within driving distance of Hammond, it is definitely worth the trip. Pack a lunch and make it a day!

The Phatwater/Wedding Weekend

This past Friday we set off for Natchez, Mississippi, and the Phatwater Kayak Challenge: a grueling 42 mile paddle in the mighty Mississippi River. Damon and Grandpa Ray went to compete; Stella, Grandmere, Grandpa Crane, and I went to have fun. First up, we have Stella in front of the official race sign. Turns out that even though it was in the 90's in LaPlace every day last week, it was chilly in Mississippi, so Stella is sporting her new sweater that we had to pick up on the trip. The concern is evident on Stella's face as she scans the river for signs of her daddy and grandpa's boat...
They made it! And in only 5 hours and 45 minutes, arrived well before the 7 hour cut-off. Whew! (Sorry there are no action shots...the photographers were too busy stuffing their faces and seeing the sites to actually follow the race)
Speaking of stuffing your face, Damon prefers to use supplements like Gu and Powerbars to maintain energy while racing, but Grandpa used a different approach. I caught him at the finish line indulging in one final Snickers after his long, chilly ordeal...
Daddy had good paddling gloves, and his hands looked like they had never even been in dishwater after the race. It makes you wonder what kind of gloves he gave grandpa...
At the Magnolia Grill in Natchez-Under-the-Hill, Stella claimed this newspaper rack as her throne and took a reading break...
Snacking with the river as a backdrop...Stella refused to smile at the camera, so I just took a picture of her eating.
Packing up was a family affair. Grandmere took pictures while Daddy and Grandpa loaded the gear and Stella and I spied on them all from inside the cozy truck.
Loading the kayak...can you tell I feel guilty for not taking more pictures of the racers?
Stella was also introduced to Burger King French fries on the trip. I know that McDonald's fries are better, but they include a dairy ingredient so they are on our "no" list.
As soon as we got home from the race, we did a quick change and headed off to Lindsay and David Peterson's wedding. Here's Daddy and his date heading into the reception hall...
The three of us as wardrobe coordinated as we ever get...
Stella and the beautiful bride...in this first picture, Stella was going for the thoughtful and serious look...
In this second shot, she chose to display her "cheese face."
More cheese face while hanging out with her friend Talia...
The aftermath of a nose kiss from Emma...
We had a blast with Lindsay and David, and most of the rest of our church family. It was the FBC LaPlace social event of the season, and I must say, those Griffiths know how to have fun.
Our final photo is Stella representing the Razorbacks in honor of their Saturday 44-23 victory over the Auburn Tigers. I have recently had complaints from readers that Stella has been rocking too much LSU gear and not giving the hogs their fair shake. To that Stella responds, "Soo-wee! Go hogs, go!"
