Turkey Trot 2010

For 9 years now, our family has started Thanksgiving Day with the Sportspectrum Turkey Trot. Through the years we have run and walked, we have experienced bitter cold and uncomfortable heat, we have dragged a variety of kids along for the experience, and we have loved every minute of it! This made Stella's third Trot. She walked it with Mommy when she was in my tummy, Daddy made her skip her first year outside the womb because of freezing temperatures, Daddy carried her for the fun run last year, and this year she did it all by herself! (Mommy was there for moral support and race photography.)  Here she is pre-race at the starting line...
It was drizzling but the temperatures were in the mid-seventies. It was so warm that I actually felt bad that I didn't have any shorts for her to wear.  I don't think she minded too much...
Since we were some of the slower contestants, we were able to see most of the field on their return from the down and back course.  Stella learned good sportsmanship by stepping to the side of the trail and cheering on her fellow racers (one of the men in the picture is actually clapping for Stella clapping for him!)...
Great job, guys!
Once they were out of the way she could really stretch her legs and enjoy a beautiful trail run...
We paused for a few moments to enjoy the early morning beauty of the Red River...
But we picked it back up for the finish...
The official race clock as Stella crossed the finish line!  Not bad for (almost) a half mile!  I still want to see her chip time...
She had worked up a thirst after all that running...
Sweet refreshment!

You want some, Mom?
When the three mile race began, we filed in at the back of the pack and made our way to the truck, stopping for a few photos along the way...
Stella was really feeling the exhaustion by mile three...
Just kidding!  Hahaha...
We can't wait until next year's race! Hopefully we'll be up to four Pourciau trotters!

Cousin Time

We spent all of Thanksgiving week at Grandpa Crane's house having fun. On Tuesday the weather was especially nice, so Damon decided to inflate Stella's bouncer and I placed a quick call to Sarah Faye to see if she was free to come bounce around with us. Stella absolutely loved spending time with Sarah, and totally thought she was a big girl just like her cousin. I think Sarah was pretty amused at how authoritarian Stella is.  Cille was happy to meet Sarah and Troyce for the first time. See?
Hopefully on our next trip to North Louisiana we can spend more time with Sarah and squeeze in some visits with all the relatives we missed!

Naptime

Following a long and busy week, this is what Damon and Stella look like on Saturday afternoon...

Anybody want some gum?

During a recent shopping trip, Mawmaw and Pawpaw bought Stella some bubble gum. Every day after that, she begged to chew it. I finally gave in one afternoon. Following several moments of silence, this is the face that I found hiding behind the shade in the kitchen...
Looks pretty guilty, huh?  I wonder why...
A closer inspection revealed that Stella was actually chewing tiny bits of gum and then spitting them out on the window sill...
You just never know what you'll find lying around this house...

Our Shoebox Gifts

Stella has participated in the Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child campaign since she was in Mommy's tummy. This year she and Cille packed up their boxes together. Since this was Stella's fourth box, she helped show Cille the ropes...
Cille was not willing to take Stella's word for it, and felt that she needed to read the instructions in the church bulletin to make sure her big sister was doing it right...
This year we included some special artwork by Stella in the boxes...
Stella was sweet enough to color a page for her box and for Cille's...
She included her school picture and a personal note...
Our friend Brianna helped Stella find a good spot for her gift on drop-off day...
Two sweet girls who know how important it is to share the love of Jesus with others...
Cille was a cheerful giver, too...

Happy Girl

These were taken at a restaurant in Hammond while the girls and I were having lunch with Mawmaw and Pawpaw. They are really a great sample of Cille's personality. She is such a good baby! She rarely cries and loves to watch people and flash them her irresistable smile!
We always say that as long as she can see faces, she's happy...
If you talk to her, she's even happier!

Cille's First Time in the Walker

The day that Stella had to stay home sick with a stomach virus Cille and I decided that it was time to take out the old walker...(you can see poor Stell-Bell lying pitifully on the couch in the background)
I think she likes it!

NOUAR 2010

Damon and I did not participate in the New Orleans Urban Adventure Race this year, but we couldn't resist stopping by to see all our friends who were racing and volunteering.  Here's Stella, helping Lori keep time at an orienteering mystery event...
And here's Nathan and Stella, cudding and cheesing it up.  Poor Jen and her girls weren't able to make it to the race due to illness, so Stella was happy to give Nathan his toddler hug-fix for the day.  Can you tell this is a man with three baby girls?
We'll get you next year, New Orleans!

Our Global Wildlife Safari

Saturday the 7th we traveled up to Folsom for our first trip to the Global Wildlife Center. Here's most of our crew, which consisted of a May, the Shanks, a gaggle of Guillorys, and a passel of Pourciaus...
Cille was unsure about the expedition.  She was also bundled up in a similar manner to that kid in A Christmas Story who falls down and can't get back up...
Stella was noticeably more enthusiastic...
Is that a baby Eskimo?  No, it's just Talia Rose...
Damon tried to get Cille excited.  She still wasn't having it...
We set off on our safari and Mawmaw was soon up close and personal with the animals.  Kelly said to hold on tight or these big things would take your cup...
Apparently Mawmaw didn't hold on tight enough...
You were allowed to feed the llamas right out of your hand.  I wonder if this one was mad at his mother?

Teamwork...

The arm you see in the corner belongs to Emma.  She was not a fan of these big things that Pawpaw and Stella were feeding, so she stood back.  She is a child after my own heart...
In this photo, Stella has just told Emma, "This is so much fun, Emma!" Really, I am not making that up.  It was precious...
It was also apparently the season for deer-on-deer violence, and we were witness to plenty...
This thing better be glad Pawpaw didn't have his gun.  There might still be some room in his house for another trophy.  I don't think anything has been hung in the bathrooms yet...
Here, animals!
Trying to keep the sun out of her eyes...
Stella, who I am always amazed is really my child, wanted to hand-feed the llamas, too...
Come on, just a little closer...
Got it!
Sadie, the most fearless young Guillory, had a great time feeding this gigantic cow...
Pawpaw fed the buffalo...
As did Noel...
And Mawmaw and Stella...(meanwhile, Cille slept and I refrained from touching or feeding anything.)

John was petting this thing and grabbing its horns.  I think he's ready for the running of the bulls...
More squabbling...
Don't feed the zebras with your hand!  They bite...
We had tons of fun feeding the animals!
