Skippy John Jones: Snow What?

November 12th we took the three big kids to see Skippyjohn Jones: Snow What? at the Manship Theatre.  It was a traveling show put on by TheatreWorks USA as part of the Manship Theatre Kids Club program.  We all really enjoyed the show.  There was humor for the parents as well as fun for the kids, and the music was catchy.  If you have a chance to see this show, you should definitely check it out...

Corinne's 1st Birthday Shoebox Packing Party

Thanks for your interest in helping Corinne help others!  

Here is a list of Suggested Items for the shoebox gifts we will be preparing:

TOYS! Start with a central item that a child will cherish, like a beautiful doll, a decorated soccer ball with pump, or a plush stuffed animal. Then add quality items like cars, musical instruments, puzzles, jump ropes, etc. 

School Supplies such as pencils, pens, crayons, notebooks, coloring books, etc. 

Hygiene Items such as toothbrushes, bars of soap, washcloths, combs, etc. 

Accessories such as socks, hats, t-shirts, flip-flops, hair bands, sunglasses, etc. 

A Personal Note and photo of you and your family/group. If you include your name and address, the child may be able to write back. 

Younger Children:

Blankets, sticker and picture books, blocks, finger puppets, pages of colorful stickers. 

Older Children: 

Small tools, tape measures, sewing kits, fabric squares, etc; deflated balls with pumps and needles; solar calculators, rulers, scissors; jewelry; deodorant

A Very Pourciau Halloween, Part 2

Since our neighborhood has a super fun Halloween social and lots of really enthusiastic candy distributors, several of our friends come over and celebrate with us.  This was our whole crew this year...

Capturing a photo of this many kids and adults in which everyone is looking at the camera is the impossible dream...

We made a valiant effort, but still fell a little short...

Here is our Despicable Family...

Pawpaw, Mawmaw, and Daddy were regular minions.  Pam was a crazy minion, Mommy was Scarlet Overkill (because, honestly, who else could I be?) and the pièce de résistance was Grandma Tonie as Dr. Nefario, scooter and all...

Aunt Sarah and her boys took us to Neverland with their costumes.  I hope that Tripp and Zachariah don't take cues from their costumes and become sworn enemies.  That could really make the sibling relationship extra challenging...

We had a great time dressing up and trick-or-treating, and even got to celebrate a birthday with Cody that night.  For the first time since we have lived in Baton Rouge trick-or-treating was moved due to inclement weather forecast for Halloween.  It ended up being a great decision because the weather was beautiful Friday night and absolutely terrible Saturday night.  So I guess the only question remaining is: what in the world are we going to dress up as next year?  We are now accepting suggestions!

A Very Pourciau Halloween, Part 1

We have made something of a tradition out of going overboard for Halloween costumes.  Since Stella was two we have chosen a family theme and dressed everyone accordingly.  Check out 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014.  The more kids that we have, the tougher it becomes to choose a theme that will accommodate everyone.  Also, it is tough to allow one child to be the "star of the show" and have the others be satellite characters.  You have to be very selective about your satellite characters so that they don't feel unimportant.  Maybe I am overthinking all this, but the point is, this year we chose to do the Despicable Me universe, and we had a great time doing it.  

We decided to let the three girls dress as the three sisters from the movies.  Birth order dictated who got what character, so we had no squabbling there.  Our middle child was Edith...

If you are having trouble picturing Edith from the movies, here she is: 

Stella was a great Margo, even though we had to spray paint her gorgeous blonde hair brown...(It seriously hurt my heart to do it!)

Watts...what can I say about the man-child?  The entire thing kind of hinged on his willingness to be Gru, and for a long time, he was NOT willing.  Damon even toyed with the idea of buying a standby Gru costume of his own in case things went south on the big night.  Watts wanted to be basically any superhero, but I convinced him that he would have fun dressing up as a bad guy.  And I promised he could carry a freeze ray gun.  (Which turned out to be some silly plastic toy we already had around the house.)  The gun won him over...

Dead ringer, huh? 

I may have forgotten to mention that Watts submitted himself to a buzz cut the day before trick or treating in order to make his costume more authentic.  That's what I call dedication to your craft...

He's a really convincing bad guy.  Check that grimace!

Finally, sweet little Corinne dressed as Agnes from the movies, and came complete with a unicorn that was SO FLUFFY!!!!!  Unfortunately, she hated the unicorn...

Corinne also had an Agnes wig, but she hated that, too.  She might have hated the wig even more than she hated the unicorn...

The Pumpkin Patch, Part 4

Surprise!  We did go back to the patch.  And they had replenished their pumpkin supply!  Hooray!  

Oh, and we got our dress from Mawmaw's house...

We had a ton of fun playing, but I put the camera away after I snapped these pictures of this little pumpkin.  Sometimes it's hard to chase after 4 kids while you're dragging a giant camera along with you...

The Pumpkin Patch, Part 3

Fresh off his seaplane ride to the Tortugas, Watts wanted to try his hand at flying a plane.  Maybe he'll be a pilot one day, but I hope not.  I get nervous enough just thinking about him learning to drive a car, much less fly a plane...

Corinne's birthday bash was coming soon, so we needed an invitation picture.  I could not find the dress that I wanted her to wear for it because it was at Mawmaw's house, so we threw on this old thing and did the best we could...

She'd be a cutie in a burlap sack...

It was so late in the day by the time we were taking these pictures that the pumpkin patch was out of pumpkins!

These are cute, but I think we can do better.  Who knows?  Maybe we'll make a second trip to the pumpkin patch this year...
