Stella's First Swim Meet

Damon and I were not involved in swim team when we were kids, and as adults, swimming has been something of our kryptonite.  We both really want to do more triathlons, but we stink at swimming to the point of sometimes injuring ourselves trying to do it.  Stella absolutely loves the water and would spend all her time in the pool if we let her, so we thought that swim team would be a natural way to foster her love of the life aquatic and help her improve her swimming skills.  The pool where we swam in LaPlace started swimmers at 4 years old, but our new pool only takes 5-year-olds and up, so this was the first year that Stella was eligible for the team.  She had one swimming lesson with the coach to see what her skill level was and after the coach approved her she began practicing with the Country Club of Louisiana Dolphins Swim Team.  Damon and I were pretty proud of our girl, since she took lessons at the YMCA last year and really did not learn anything as a 4-year-old that she didn't already know as a 3-year-old.  Swim team practice was soon the highlight of Stella's day and before long it was time for her first swim meet...
Daddy had the camera on sports mode and it takes continuous photos, so we were able to obsessively catch each little movement...
Oh, the suspense...
We have splashdown...

And there she goes! Her first race was the 25 meter freestyle...

After she was done it was back to the tent to rest and wait for her next event...
I kept her company under the tent...
Time for the 25 meter backstroke...

Daddy was so close that she actually looked at the camera for this one.  Does this make us helicopter parents?

I love seeing the drops of water in this one...

At the end of her race Stella was reluctant to get out of the pool.  The adults at the end finally had to snatch her out before someone swam over her!
