Dance Recital

Stella completed her first year of dance in June.  She took a ballet and tap combo class.  For her recital, her class performed ballet to "Oh What a Beautiful Morning" from Oklahoma.  No, this first photo is not from a Benetton ad, it's her actual class during rehearsal...
No cameras are allowed at the actual recital but parents are allowed to take pictures and video at dress rehearsal.  I actually liked this because it gave you the opportunity to enjoy the recital without obsessing about missing the perfect shot...
We had a little mishap the night before the performance.  Watts had a stomach virus earlier in the week and gave it to me on Wednesday night.  I tried to stay away from everyone, but apparently Stella did not stay far enough away, because she came down with the virus THE NIGHT BEFORE HER RECITAL!!!  The poor kid puked more than I thought physically possible from a 6 year old body and somehow still had enough left in her system to stay on the toilet all night battling problems from the other end.  By the morning of the recital, I am pretty sure she was totally dehydrated.  I did not think she should participate, but Damon wanted to leave the choice up to her.  She wanted to try it...
We waited until the last possible minute and delivered her backstage.  The poor recital workers must have been terrified, because Damon dropped her off with an Epipen, instructions about her food allergies, and warnings about her horrific stomach virus and possible need to vomit or go to the potty with very little warning.  My stress level as a parent has never been as high as it was during this recital, but on the bright side, my prayer life has never been so good...
The recital seemed to last f-o-r-e-v-e-r, but finally it was Stella's turn and she danced her heart out!  it was the best performance of the routine she had ever done, and besides looking a little pale, you would never have guessed that she felt awful...
Her tap routine was performed to "Da Do Run Run."  She had problems in rehearsal with one of her tap shoes coming off, so we were nervous about that as well as her virus during the tap dance.  She completed it LIKE A TROOPER!  She did lose her shoe in the middle of the dance, but she did not even skip a beat.  She just kept tapping her little heart out in her stocking feet!  I was so proud of my big girl!

So in spite of many challenges, Stella showed us all that she is a true overcomer.  Great job, Stella!  Oh, and the stomach virus?  It didn't stop with Stella.  She gave it to Damon and Pawpaw as a Father's Day gift.
