Very Sleepy in the City that Never Sleeps

Our family is pretty well-known for flying by the seat of our pants and being spontaneous, but we kicked our spontaneity up to a whole new level with our last minute Independence Day weekend trip to NYC. We booked our flights on Friday afternoon, packed that night after the kids went to sleep, slept an hour and a half ourselves, and were at the airport at 5 a.m. for our 6 o'clock flight. After a short nap on the plane, Stella was ready to go...
Cille was not...(note the sleeping child in the stroller...you'll be seeing this shot a lot.)
We used public transit (a bus AND the subway) to make it to our hotel, and let's just say it was a bit of a harrowing experience with 4 suitcases, 3 carry-ons, a stroller, and 2 toddlers.  We made it, though, and most of us took an afternoon nap before heading out to see our first show on Broadway: Mary Poppins! I say "most" of us napped because by the time we made it to the hotel, Cille had her nap out and was ready to play.  Everyone except Mom and Cille napped while Cille and I toddled around the lobby and made friends from all over the world.  Oh, and I ate a candy bar and drank a Coke in hopes that I would be able to stay awake for Poppins.

I don't have any pictures from the good camera to document our excursion to the theatre that night but let me just say OH. MY. GOSH.  Mary Poppins the Musical is the MOST spectacular thing I have ever witnessed in my ENTIRE life.  It is better than Phantom.  It is better than Wicked.  It literally gave me chill bumps several times it was soooooo good.  If you are the parent of a girl between the ages of 3 and 15 you should do whatever you have to in order to experience this magical event with your child.  The look on Stella's face when Mary Poppins FLEW (yes, you read that right, she FLEW) over her was PRICELESS!  The whole trip was already worthwhile and it was only the first night!

The next day Mawmaw and Pawpaw took Stella on a little trip to Bear Country to see The Berenstain Bears in Family Matters the Musical.  They had VIB (Very Important Bear) tickets, so they had seats on the grassy knoll...

Afterwards they posed with Mama, Papa, Brother, and Sister Bear...
Daddy met up with us then (he had been off doing a little work) and we went sightseeing for the rest of the afternoon.  Here are Daddy and Stella in front of the Time Warner Center...
And me, too...
By the time we made it to Radio City Music Hall, Stella was done with pictures but Cille was willing...

Cille was fresh off of her nap and Stella was ready for one...
We went to the Top of the Rock...

Stella took this picture.  Not bad for a three year old, huh?

She took this one, too...
The Top of the Rock wasn't very crowded.  I wonder why?  Maybe because it was RAINING and the haze was making the visibility less than stellar.  That's the Empire State Building in the mist...
Stella still enjoyed feeding some quarters to the binoculars...

Central Park from the Top of the Rock...
Cille made a friend...
In the distance is the ball in Times Square...
Since we have almost 100 pictures to share, I have randomly separated them into 4 sections. Part 2 of our trip is coming soon!

I think it's very possible that *someone* ripped off this title from a text message their super-witty sister sent....hmmm?

Still haven't had time to read the whole post yet b/c I still need to go and wipe Audrey's bum but you have very cute clothes on in these pics and NYC is so much fun. our kids haven't experienced it yet but we would love to take them. Shoot, we also want to just do a husband and wife trip one weekend ourselves. We aren't lucky enough to have grandparents that can go along and help chaperone! Count your blessings and count your blessings that you love your in laws so much!
