Great Wolf Lodge

Over Mardi Gras break we took a little family trip to Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine.  We were planning on visiting Dallas and taking in some sights, but then some of our friends suggested that Great Wolf Lodge can really be a one stop shop for family fun and we decided to give it a try.  Here is Stella, enjoying the elevator as only she can...
If you think Great Wolf Lodge is just an indoor water park, think again.  One of our girls' favorite activities there was MagiQuest, a game in which they scour the hotel for hidden items and unlock secrets with their magic wands... (It is a tricky way to get kids to exercise A LOT by running up and down stairs.  It can also be a bit tedious for the parents and grandparents who have to follow them up and down said stairs.)

This is the wizard guy who gives you clues to help you complete your quests...A little Gandolph-esque, am I right?

Watts did not have a wand; he was unphased by that and stole his sisters' whenever he could...
The lodge also has its own set of characters.  Here is Violet the Wolf...
This is Stella's amazed face after she found a particularly difficult to locate item...
Did I mention there are also lots of sweets to eat at the lodge?  Unfortunately, the items in the Bear Paw weren't peanut safe, but Stella was able to enjoy some chocolate mousse in one of the restaurants thanks to a very sweet and helpful lodge employee...

The lady in the tree...

You could collect gold and jewels on your wand at these chests.  Cille was a virtual millionaire on her wand...

Although most of our pictures are from MagiQuest because it was a dry camera-friendly activity, we did go swimming also...
Watts was a little under the weather so this is about as close to the water as he got...

Safety first!  No swimsuit, but he's got his floatie on...

We had a good time playing together at Great Wolf Lodge.  I did find the water park a little cool for my taste.  It felt warm when you first entered, but after you got wet you really had to be moving around or you were chilly.  Bigger or more adventurous kids might enjoy it more since they would probably be all about the water slides and our kids weren't really interested in that.  Stella particularly enjoyed one of the water challenges, and I will have to get Damon to post the video from it.
