Pumpkin Patch: The Double Date

The other day the girls reached a milestone that I was not quite ready for: they were asked out on their first double date.  Seriously.  Cille, henceforth to be known as "The One We Really Have to Watch," has had a "boyfriend" for quite a while now, and Stella recently made the discovery that his older brother is pretty close to her age.  In a move that could only happen in the age of iPhones, the first grader and the three year old texted us a video to say that they wanted to visit the pumpkin patch with us.  The girls of course had to send their own video text back and accept, declaring it a "double date," and prompting me to start checking prices on shotguns.  I thought we had at least until they were teenagers, but apparently kids move faster these days.

Of course we did choose a day to visit the pumpkin patch on which it was about 95 degrees.  I usually have my friend Katie make some cute embroidered t-shirts for the girls to wear to the pumpkin patch, but this year I just grabbed a few pumpkin shirts from the store.  Did I mention they were long sleeved?  I really learned my lesson and will be ordering my short sleeved shirts early next year.  I made the kids wear the shirts to the patch and suffer through a few forced photos before changing them into cooler clothes...

Stella really knows how to pose after 5 years.  If you want to see what she looked like on her first trip to the pumpkin patch, click here...

Family photo minus Dad.  He was helping Pawpaw with a deer stand and missed the first part of the day...

After a quick change the girls were ready for action.  There's Cille's handsome boyfriend in the background.  Aren't they nicely coordinated?  Ready for the pumpkin patch, or Sadie Hawkins...
If you enlarge this one you can see me sprawled on my rear end but having a great time on the blob with the girls.  I was pumped to be able to play on the blob because I have spent a couple of trips to the pumpkin patch avoiding the blob because of pregnancy...

A new addition this year was a trough full of corn.   Watts enjoyed playing with the balls in the trough but was not crazy about the corn...

I had to lie to Evan to get this picture of him.  Apparently, boys aren't all that in to posing for pictures...
And look at this sweet little pumpkin that we found in the corn trough!  Mrs. Yvonne's grandson is getting to be such a big boy!

So, back to the double date.  As it turns out, the kids had little to zero interest in actually doing anything together, much to the frustration of the mothers, who actually wanted to hang out.  We finally talked Ryan into having his face painted with us...

And they were all eager to decorate their pumpkins, so we did get to experience that together...

Stella's date...

As you can see from Stella's sweat, it was H O T!
I was a bit nervous about allowing a 3 year old and a 5 year old to date, but as long as their dates remain that disinterested in them, I think these relationships could totally work out.  Thanks, Evan and Ryan, for a fun first date!

Oh, and if you think we left the patch just because our dates did, think again!  These girls are not afraid to go stag!  More pumpkin patch fun to come!
