Frosting the Snowman

Our moms group does an annual Christmas cookie swap. Last year, I made Hypocritical Nutter Butter Santas. I called them "Hypocritical" because we don't do Santa at all at our house. The Nutter Butter part is self explanatory, and you basically dip the cookies in white chocolate and red sprinkles, then add chocolate chips for eyes and a red hot nose. For obvious reasons (peanut allergy and a 2 year old diva who is developing an overly dramatic fear of peanuts) we had to find a new cookie for this year's swap. Enter Donut Hole Snowmen. For some reason I actually thought this recipe sounded like a good idea.  After putting together the first four cookies, I reconsidered.  They take a ton of time and obviously don't travel well.  Although I did not eat one, I was told that they were tasty.  Here are the fruits of my labor...
I started with 60 holes from (where else?) the Donut Hole.  Then I melted vanilla frosting in the microwave for about 15 seconds.  Then I dipped EVERY SINGLE HOLE in frosting and let them set.  I then cut tiny scarves for them from Fruit by the Foot (or footy foot, as Stella calls it) and stacked the holes on top of one another with a scarf in between.  Then I used chocolate decorator's icing to add buttons, eyes, and a mouth.  I cut triangles of dried papaya for a nose and added half of a mini Oreo and a portion of Oreo stick to make a top hat.  Did I mention that I completed this crazy activity at 10:30 on a school night during a week that Damon stayed with his parents due to having the flu?  Yes, I am totally nuts, even though Stella is allergic to them.  Here's a close-up of one of the little guys (please note the hand-cut fringe on his scarf)...
Next year my cookies are coming from a bakery.
