Zoo Day

On Wednesday Stella and her friend Cohen decided to visit the Audubon Zoo.  We arrived in time for the otter feeding, and since we were the only folks who showed up for the feeding, our kiddos got to participate!  They both did a great job throwing carrot slices to the very grateful otters.  Unfortunately, there is no photographic evidence because Emily and I both had our arms full of kid and weren't able to take pictures.  After feeding the animals, they checked up on their good friend Claude...
Next it was on to the petting zoo, where Stella got up close and personal with some kind of scary lizard...

And a hedgehog...

Cohen was a bit more skeptical...

Stella even petted a rat.  I told her that it was one of the ones that make nests in her hair while she sleeps...

Goats.  This time she did not inquire about their footwear...

Awww...

Cohen has been well-trained by Lucy and Ella, and knew just what to do with the brush...

Poor Stella really needs a pet...

I think this picture illustrates just why they call it "Monkey Hill..."

Giddy-up!

Emily was kind enough to escort the kids down the waterfalls.  They had a blast playing in the pool at the bottom...

In spite of this serious face, Cohen was having too much fun.  He thoroughly enjoyed everything he did that day...

On the carousel, Stella chose an elephant...

Cohen tried out the zebra.  We can't wait for our large group carousel ride this December at Celebration in the Oaks...

In Jaguar Jungle, Cohen and Stella tried their hands at archaeology....

I think Stella was attempting to tell Cohen how to dig in this picture.  Cohen is the perfect friend for her because he does a great job of ignoring her bossiness...

You may notice that in the preceding pictures, Stella is squatting.  She eventually asked me if she could put her bootie in the dirt.  Why not?

We had planned to leave in time for their afternoon nap, but we were having so much fun that we just kept right on playing.  At 3, we caught the sea lion show.  Since one of the animals was not cooperating, they changed their plans and brought one of the sea lions out to do a demonstration.  Since we strolled up just in time for the show, we ended up with front row seats about 10 feet away from the animal and trainer.  Being in the right place at the right time was the theme of the day, and it was awesome!

Our kids were obviously mesmerized...

Still checking it out...

I don't think either one of them could actually see the sea lion at this point, but aren't they cute?  The kids, I mean, not the beasts...

Even though we never made it to Cohen's favorite part of the zoo (the playground), both kids were completely tuckered out after their day of fun.  They had a nice nap together in the back of Jace's truck...
